In order to be eligible for import into Australia, a species must be included on the Commonwealth Government’s live Import List, maintained by the Commonwealth Department of Environment. These restrictions have been established as a safeguard to protect Australia against exotic pests and diseases that are considered a threat to the Australian environment, economy and the wider community and to protect endangered species from uncontrolled trade which can lead to population decline and extinction of endangered species. There are restrictions on the animals that can be imported into Australia. In Australia the importation of live animals is controlled by the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), and the Biosecurity Act 2015 (Cth). Boa constrictors reach sexual maturity around 3 to 4 years of age and can live up to 30 years. Breedingīoa constrictors are prolific breeders and give birth to numerous live young, with litter size averaging 25 and reaching up to 60. It may impact on agricultural activities and it is known to threaten species of amphibians, birds, lizards, snakes and bats.īoa constrictors can carry viruses such as Inclusion Body Disease and Ophidian Paramyxovirus, which are fatal to native Australian snakes as they have no resistance to the diseases. The Boa constrictor can represent a threat to humans, particularly small children, as well as domestic pets. Boa constrictors feed on a wide variety of vertebrates including small mammals, birds and their eggs, small lizards and occasionally amphibians with larger sized Boa constrictors able to feed on larger animals. The Boa constrictor’s jaws are lined with small, hooked teeth which are used for grabbing and holding prey while it is wrapped around and suffocated by the snake. The Bomford Risk Assessment Model classifies the Boa constrictor as a ‘Serious’ establishment risk for Australia.īoa constrictors have been bred and actively distributed by the pet industry with the species now kept both legally and illegally in captivity around the world. The Bomford Risk Assessment Model 1 provides a model of the risk to Australia of non-indigenous animals based on data collected for introduced species in Britain and the United States of America using parameters including taxonomy, climate matching, geographic range, and success of establishment elsewhere. Impactīoa constrictors have a proven record of success as an invasive species having successfully established non-native pest populations in locations such as Dade County, Florida in the USA and Cozumel Island, Mexico. However, in addition to the browns and creams seen in Boa constrictor colouration, carpet pythons typically have an olive green colouration. Native carpet pythons reach similar sizes to Boa constrictors and also have blotches, stripes or cross bands. The coloured patterns aid in camouflaging the snake under natural conditions, allowing the species to evade detection and assist it to hide from and ambush its prey. The Boa constrictor generally displays distinctive patterns on the body, of jagged lines, ovals, diamonds and circles, with typical markings often described as “saddles”. Colouration of the Boa constrictor species ranges widely with tan, green, red and yellow colouration combinations. The Boa constrictor is non-venomous and has an arrow-shaped head. The Boa constrictor is considered to be one of the world’s largest snake species with an average length of around 3m. The Boa constrictor ( Boa constrictor) originates from Central and South America, including northern Mexico and north-western Argentina, where a total of 10 subspecies of the Boa constrictor occur. This gearbox was offered on the special Cutlass Supreme Hurst/Olds version. It was named the Hurst Lightning Rods Triple Shifter. To mark the 15th anniversary of the first Hurst/Olds car produced, GM launched in 1983 the car with three gear levers, as if the first iterations were not complicated enough. It was the only time an Indy Pace car was sponsored by a manufacturer other than an automobile manufacturer, and first time to include a major supplier's name in the title. Oldsmobile provided the Cutlass Supreme coupe and convertible. Hurst Performance stepped up and volunteered to sponsor the 1972 Pace car. Due to a tragic accident involving the 1971 Indy Pace car, a Dodge Challenger, the major auto manufacturers were reluctant to provide the pace car for the 1972 Indy race. Some had interesting stories behind them.įor example, in 1972 Hurst/Olds was actually developed by Hurst Performance, and not Oldsmobile. They were never produced in high numbers but had a cult following and these cars are now very collectible. In the late 60s and early 70s, a number of variants and improvements to the Hurst/Olds models followed. You can now imagine why this type of transmission became a favorite for drag-race enthusiasts. It was, basically, an all or nothing transmission, and by nothing I mean sometimes the car spun off the road out of control. If you tried to change gears at the wrong time, the shifter would not come through and the race was lost. The way the transmission was built, when the gear lever was on the right side and the changes were made manually, it necessitated more line pressure and a hard launch up to the red line for it to work. After this, it was smooth sailing until the police caught up with you. If you survived, you got to repeat the performance for third and final gear. Usually, this meant the car tried to spin out of control and kill you. With tires screeching, this was the moment to punch it into second gear. The trick was for the driver to keep its cool up until the red line. Placing the lever at the very back at 1 for first gear, you accelerated pedal to the metal. To the right, a separate gate which had to be maneuvered into manually with the car at a standstill was the fully manual shift pattern. The shift pattern was on the left side with medium line pressure and fairly low shift points for easy, smooth driving, used mainly when you had to pick up the kids from school. The main shift pattern was the usual PRNDL set up where you placed the lever in Drive and let the transmission do its thing. The Hurst Dual Gate or "His 'n' Her" shifter was based on a simple idea – a shifter with two paths under the plate. It was meant to provide the muscle-car driver with a way to shift gears faster than standard the automatic transmission could. Oh no, this car had a console-mounted Hurst Dual-Gate shifter that permitted automatic or manually ratcheted shifting, pictured in the image below.īefore the collaboration between Oldsmobile and Hurst, George Hurst offered his iconic gearbox as an aftermarket option back in 1963. The most distinctive feature was not the paint job, the unusual name or the powerful engine. There were 51 Sport coupes and 464 Holiday coupes manufactured. In total, 515 production examples of the 1968 model were built in 2 body styles. This engine had a massive displacement of 455 cubic inches (7.45 liters), something that would look out of place today, but was actually quite normal for the era of muscle cars. The paint job was unique though, as it was painted in Peruvian Silver and Black. The new car used the body of a regular Oldsmobile Cutlass. It was called, of course, the Hurst/Olds. It all started in 1968 when Hurst Performance of Warminster, Pennsylvania, in collaboration with Oldsmobile, a now defunct division of GM, produced a special-edition performance version of the 442 or Cutlass Supreme. It might sound insane today, but once, in the 80s, General Motors made series-production cars with up to three gear levers. Have you ever heard of the gearbox with three levers? The presentation layer takes any data transmitted by the application layer and prepares it for transmission over the session layer. It defines how two devices should encode, encrypt, and compress data so it is received correctly on the other end. The presentation layer prepares data for the application layer. A few examples of application layer protocols are the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Post Office Protocol (POP), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), and Domain Name System (DNS). It provides protocols that allow software to send and receive information and present meaningful data to users. The application layer is used by end-user software such as web browsers and email clients. We’ll describe OSI layers “top down” from the application layer that directly serves the end user, down to the physical layer. OSI was introduced in 1983 by representatives of the major computer and telecom companies, and was adopted by ISO as an international standard in 1984. However, the OSI 7-layer model is still widely used, as it helps visualize and communicate how networks operate, and helps isolate and troubleshoot networking problems. The modern Internet is not based on OSI, but on the simpler TCP/IP model. It was the first standard model for network communications, adopted by all major computer and telecommunication companies in the early 1980s Such components may include routers, hubs, cabling, telecommunications controllers, key distribution centers, and technical control devices. The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model describes seven layers that computer systems use to communicate over a network. 5 An information system(s) implemented with a collection of interconnected components. It was Dawn who helped pioneer yellow-green formulas to conceal and neutralize redness in the most famous stars of the '40s and '50s. The Old Hollywood Historyīlasco began his career in the early '60s as a makeup artist representative for Max Factor, where he learned tricks of the trade that had been passed down from Jack Dawn, the head of makeup for MGM (Dawn was behind the makeup for the Wizard of Oz (1939) and Gone With the Wind (1939)). That said, there’s six colors you’ll want to keep in mind while color-correcting: pale pink (which brightens blue-toned spots on fair skin), peach (neutralizes blue/purple shadows on medium skin tones), orangey pink (cancels out dark spots on dark skin tones), yellow (offsets purple or darker-toned shadows on olive or tan skin), green (neutralizes redness), and lavender (cancels out yellow tones).Upon further contemplation of this surprising, color theory-based technique, we couldn't help but wonder: how long has this been a thing?
